After the Cut-Off Date, all rooms within the Total Guest Room Block that have not been reserved will be returned to the Hotel’s general inventory. Reservation requests for rooms within the Total Guest Room Block received after the Cut-Off Date will be based on availability at Hotel’s prevailing rates.

  • Morning Field Trips

    • Botanical Garden, self guided tour, meet at 9:00 am
    • Smithsonian African American Museum (Lonnie Bunch - guided tour). Reserved for 20 people. Names required by Sept. 25. Tour starts at 10:00 am

  • 3:00-5:00 pm

    Library of Congress Exhibition
    Presentation by Liz Novara and Library of Congress staff on holdings and how to research. Presentation by Liz Novara and Library of Congress staff on holdings and how to research. (The Library of Congress holds SWG’s archives of past members).

Saturday October 11th

First Day of Conference

Plenaries will be scheduled in the morning and afternoon. Member lectures and presentations will be held in smaller 2 break out rooms. Exhibits, books, brochures in break out rooms or in hallway. Breakout speakers and short presentations: 7-10 minutes; open to all registered SWG members on a first-come basis. Please indicate on the registration form and fill out the presentation form if you wish to present.

Directions to the Library of Congress:

The Library of Congress is located on Capitol Hill in southeast Washington, D.C.  It comprises three buildings that are adjacent to each other: the Thomas Jefferson Building (10 1st Street, SE ‐ located across the street from the U.S. Capitol), the James Madison Building (101 Independence Avenue, SE) and the John Adams Building (2nd Street, SE).

The Capitol South Metro Station on the Orange Line is across the street from the C Street Entrance of the Madison building.

The Union Station Metro Station on the Red Line is a 15 min walk from the Independence Ave Entrance of the Madison building.

If you are taking public transportation, Capitol South (Orange/Blue line) is the closest Metro stop although it is only a 15 minute walk from the Union Station Metro (Red line).

If you come by Metro, you can enter at the corner of 1st and C streets. There is a metal detector and security checkpoint there.
