Tibetan Sketches

This is an unusual exhibit by two members who were allowed into Tibet in the early 1980s, before modernization and the development of tourism. The drawings in watercolor and ink by Elisabeth (Ben) Booz were done during a three-week visit in 1981; Ann Hawthorne's photographs were taken during a six-week journey alone through the country in 1985. The two different media offer a rare double vision of the beauty and isolation of Tibet in that era.

The exhibit is in our Headquarters at 415 E. Capitol St. SE and is open during business hours, noon to 4p.m., Tuesday through Friday. Weekend visits can be arranged on request. Please call 202-546-9228.
